Original G. B. French “4 Chickens” Primitive Folk Art Pencil & Watercolor – USA, PA
Price includes shipping and insurance within the US.
Original watercolor & pencil drawing by Pennsylvania folk artist Garnett Bruce French, 1888 – 1970. GB lived in the Philadelphia area and worked in an 18th century folk style, mainly watercolors but some other mediums as well. His work has been steadily climbing in the auction market since his death. In 2014 one of his works (framed size 13 x 15) sold for $280.
This is the only example of his work I have found for sale outside the Philadelphia area. This appears to be a pencil drawing with watercolor of 3 hens & a rooster. I am not sure if it is on cloth or paper as he used both. It is signed by the artist and on the back of the frame it is titled “4 Chickens” in pencil. Original sponge painted frame in tones of rust, yellow ochre and black. A lovely primitive piece.
Size: 9 x 11, framed
