Yeah, I know, it’s a popular TV show – one I enjoy – but in this context it’s your introduction to the ladies behind Cherish the Old. This is Sharon (above) and this is me, Cynthia (below), your blogger. I’ll be your primary blogger but you will hear from Sharon on occasion as well. So welcome to Cherish the Old, this is us.
Born in Canada, Sharon and I have been best friends practically since birth. I think it was in the DNA, our mothers and our grandmothers were also friends. We both married American boys within a year of one another and moved to the states. She to New Jersey and I to Ohio, later to Michigan and then on to sunny Georgia.
Being raised by mothers of British heritage we were taught to appreciate the beauty of fine handmade things, especially bone china, silver and fine crystal.
This love of beautiful objects turned into a desire to share them with others. For Sharon it was her son who started her in the business. He began attending auctions and brought his mother along for help and advice. After doing this for a time Sharon began her own online business, Cherish the Old, in 2013. Located in the north Jersey area, Sharon’s primary source for treasure hunting are the many local auctions featuring the estates of the Northeast with the odd private sale thrown in. Sharon specializes in fine silver, china and beautiful objects of the Victorian and early 20th century.
For me, the path was a little different. I started selling online in the early 2000’s, mostly as a way to sell toys & personal items we no longer needed. Then in 2006 I became a Professional Organizer in Michigan. Frequently I had clients with beautiful things they no longer wanted or needed and I began to sell for them as well. That lead to selling an entire estate online in 2012 and I found I enjoyed it. In 2014 I moved to Georgia and re-started the online sales portion of my business, this time buying and selling for myself under A Thing of Beauty Vintage Finds. My primary source of treasures are the elegant estate sales in the horse country and towns in my area north of Atlanta and the occasional auction as well. I specialize in fine china, crystal and collectible vintage glassware and items from the art deco to the mid-century modern period.
In 2016 we combined our resources and launched this site to offer our treasures to you. We hope you enjoy the journey as much as we are.
